It gives me great joy to be the new Site Coordinator for CASE 21st Century Community Learning Center’s After-School Program at Sherman Elementary School.  It is wonderful to know that Sherman Elementary School is making every effort to ensure that our students have a wonderful and fruitful school year. Sherman Elementary believes in investing the gift that is needed for our children to learn and that is “time”.  The time that we invest in our children allows them to realize how much we believe in them.  It is an investment that assures the rest of us that the future will be bright and strong for our children.  Through the time given in after-school programs, I, along with the assistance of others, dedicate this time to helping our students realize their great potential, as well as, making them aware of their wonderful talent and abilities.

It is unfortunate that our research studies report that thousands of students in the country and here in the greater Houston area do not have access to a quality after-school program or a program at all.  Fortunately, Sherman Elementary students continue to have the opportunity to participate in the CASE 21st Century Community Learning Centers After-School Program.

Having a quality program begins with people who are willing to dedicate time and effort, but it also entails having a safe and stimulating place for students to go to after school. Sherman Elementary School not only provides this place but also encourages students to stay away from those things that might cause them harm such as, drugs, alcohol and crime. Our after-school program gives students an opportunity to continue to learn new skills and discover new abilities after the school day has ended. Sherman Elementary’s goal is not only to educate and equip our students with knowledge, but also to nurture our students’ confidence in applying this great knowledge through the gift of their skills, talents, and abilities.  It is not only to prepare them for the far-off future; for all of us here at Sherman Elementary, it’s about preparing our students for the near tomorrow.
