- Lyman Frank Baum was born on May 15,1856 in Chittenango, New York.
- Frank was a shy boy and spent much time in secret places he found, acted
out stories and played with imaginary friends, and made voices for his
toys.
- Frank’s father and mother’s name was Benjamin and Cythia Ann Stanton
Baum.
- Frank had nine brothers and sisters but, only 5 survived, two girls and
three boys.

- Frank was born with a weak heart and suffered all his life from angina
pectoris.
- Frank owed a chain of opera houses given to him by his dad.
- Frank also wrote the musical, (Maid in Arran.)
- Later he married a lovely woman named Maud Gage.

- Frank had four children.
- Frank loved to tell stories to young children so, he decided to write
his own children’s novel. He
wanted to find a name for his novel and he looked at his file cabinet,
it was labeled A-G, H-N, and O-Z. Oz became part of the titles name.
- Frank visited Aberdeen and moved there with his family.

- When Harry was in his dad’s shop, he created the tin man out of a wash
boiler, bolted stove pipe, an underside of a sauce pan, and then topped
it off with a funnel hat.
- Frank was the editor of the Aberdeen Saturday Pioneer. The paper was
sold in South Dakota.

- Frank suffered from a terrible stroke on May,5 1919.
- The very next day, Frank passed away.
- At the end, he mumbled in his coma, then opened his eyes and said
clearly, “Now we can cross the Shifting Sands.”
