- Mary Cassatt was born in 1844, in Pennsylvania. Her only sister was Lydia. She had four brothers. Her parents
were strict.

- When Mary was seven, her family moved to the busiest part of Paris.
- When Mary was twenty-one she announced she would become an artist.
Nobody found this odd because when she was fifthteen she read books
about artists and art.

- Women were not supposed to be artist back then.
- Mary’s dad was against her
becoming an artist, but he eventually changed his mind and Mary attended
art school.

- Mary lived in Paris. She became famous in Europe and the United States.
She painted nude babies, her
family, and people doing every day things.
- She was an Impressionist. These artists
painted with bright colors and did not use much detail.

- Mary Cassatt died in 1826, at the age of 82. Her art just became more
and more famous.
- She will always be known as an Impressionist.
