2	Sam’s Childhood Sam was born on March 2,1793. He lived in Virginia with his mother, brothers, and sisters. His father was never really home. Sam did not go to school he stayed home.
3	Growing Up Sam sometimes played with his dad’s sword when he was young. Most often he read hero stories. His favorite hero was a Roman, Caius Marius. Sam was a ordinary boy, but grew up to be a famous general.
4	The Battle When Sam was grown up, he was in the battle of San Jacinto. On March 6, the battle at the Alamo had begun. All of the defenders died. Now only Sam and his tiny army was left to defend Texas. Sam and his army beat the Mexicans for the Alamo.
5	Sam’s Life After the Battle Sam’s wounds from the war troubled him the rest of his life. He became the first governor of Texas in 1859. He married two women ( Eliza Allen and Tiana Rogers the Indian) On July 26,1863 he died of pneumonia. He gave Texas all he had.
