School
telephone and cell phone use
Children must
have written permission from a teacher to use school
telephones. Children will not be called to the office
to talk to parents. Emergency messages will be
delivered by the office personnel. All telephone
lines are reserved for administrative functions within
the various offices. Calls should be limited.
Parents and
students with cell phones on campus should be sure the
phone is silenced while in the classroom. Students
should keep phones in a school bag or backpack and
should not make or receive calls during school hours.
We encourage visitors not to take or receive calls
while visiting classrooms in order to maintain an
atmosphere conducive to learning.
Snacks
Snacks during the school day are at the discretion of
classroom teachers. Should your child’s teacher allow
snack time, snacks should be healthy, low sugar food
items (no candy). If teachers allow students to have
bottled water to drink throughout the day, these
bottles should contain only water, not juice, soda, or
other beverages. Reusable bottles should be
thoroughly cleaned at home daily.
Birthday Treats
Students
celebrating birthdays may treat their classmates
during an open time determined by the teacher. This
time must be after the last lunch served according to
the Foods of Minimal Nutrition Value mandate. Treats
are limited to single servings of fruit, vegetables or
cupcakes. Pizza is not considered a snack. Teachers
should be notified in advance to avoid conflicts.
Presents, party favors, candles, etc. are not
acceptable.
If you choose
to send birthday invitations, please consider the
feelings of your child’s classmates. If you choose to
only invite a few classmates, please allow the teacher
to discretely place the invitation in the student’s
backpack.
