Standardized Dress and Grooming Policy

Students are expected to use “Standardized Dress” at Stevenson Elementary School. They are expected to comply with the Standardized Dress Code Policy. If you have questions or concerns in this matter, please don’t hesitate to call the school at 713-802-4772.

Standardized dress applies before, during, and after school hours and at all school-sponsored functions, athletic games, all field trips, and during summer school.

“Standardized Dress” code calls for:

BOYS

Any solid color shirt/polo with collar (shirt tail tucked in).
Properly fitted navy blue pants, dark blue jeans or khaki-colored pants worn with a belt (elastic waistband with no belt loops for PK ONLY).
Navy blue shorts, khaki color shorts, or dark blue jean shorts at fingertip length worn with belt (elastic waistband with no belt loops for PK ONLY).
Any color tennis shoes with soles that do no leave marks on floors (Velcro closures highly recommended for PK)
Any solid color sweaters, sweatshirts or jackets will be permitted as long as it has NO emblems or advertisements printed on them.

GIRLS

Any solid color shirt/polo with collar (shirt tail tucked in).
Properly fitted navy blue pants, dark blue jeans or khaki-colored pants worn with a belt (elastic waistband with no belt loops for PK ONLY).
Navy blue or khaki color skirt, or dark blue jean shorts or skorts at fingertip length worn with belt *elastic waistband with no belt loops for PK ONLY).
Any color tennis shoes with soles that do no leave marks on floors (Velcro closures highly recommended for PK)
Any solid color sweaters, sweatshirts or jackets will be permitted as long as it has NO emblems or advertisements printed on them.
On days when the class is assigned to P.E., girls must wear shorts under their skirts.

ALL

No writing allowed on any clothing item except the Stevenson logo.
All slacks, skirts, skorts and shorts must be worn at waist level
All clothing must fit (NO OVER-SIZED or TIGHT CLOTHING WILL BE ALLOWED)
All outerwear must conform to dress code.

DO NOT WEAR

Dirty, torn, ragged, oversized or tight clothing.
Overalls.
Collar-less or striped shirts.
Any type of hat, cap or bandanas.
No expensive earrings or other jewelry (school will NOT be held responsible).
No long loop earrings on girls.
No earrings on boys.
Flip flops, sandals, house shoes, swim shoes or shoes without backs or shoes with open toes.
See-through, mesh or fishnet clothing.
Clothing which shows the bare midriff.
No tattoos of any kind (permanent or fake).
No fake fingernails or fingernail polish.
No makeup.

HAIR

Hair must be neatly combed and clean.
No unusual hair styles will be permitted, such as spiked, dyed, highlights, bleached or shaved (designs) hair on boys or girls.

IMPORTANT

For the 2007-2008 school year, we request students use backpacks for homework and other items.
