Releasing Students During School Hours

A student may be released during school hours only to the person who signed the student’s enrollment form or who has legal custody of the student or to a person who has the parent’s written permission to have the student released. That person must first present identification to the school office.

Closing of Schools

The Superintendent of Schools may close schools because of inclement weather or emergencies (flooding, icy roads, power failures, etc.).

HISD instantaneously announces such closings through its new telephone and e-mail notification system, Connect-ED. This information is also announced on radio and television stations. Under both emergency closing plans, A and B, students are excused from class for the day. Under plan A, all employees are also excused. Under plan B, schools are closed, but administrative offices remain open.

Individuals who miss the announcements can phone HISD’s Weather Hotline (713-267-1704) for details.
