Teachers are on duty from 7:30 a.m. until 3:15 p.m. daily. Before 7:30 a.m. and after 3:15 p.m., teacher supervision is not available.

Students are expected to be in class ready to learn at 7:35 a.m. (*Exception: 7:45 Special Education Self-Contained Students Only*).Those not in class at that time are tardy and will need a tardy pass in order to enter the classroom.

Consequences for being tardy are:

1st Tardy	Verbal Warning
2nd Tardy	Teacher/Student Conference
3rd Tardy	Administrator/Student Conference Phone Call to Parents
4th Tardy	Phone Call to Parents

Subsequent tardies will be reported to the HISD truant officer.

Children between the ages of 6 to 17 are required to attend school by the state compulsory attendance law. Pre-Kindergarten students who do not come to school regularly will be dropped from the program.

The official time of the day for taking attendance is 9:30 a.m. Parents are encouraged to make dental/doctor appointments after 9:30 a.m. so that students will not be counted absent. Children between the ages of 6 to 17 are required to attend school by the compulsory attendance law.

The following are the only acceptable excuses for absences:

Personal Illness	Sickness or Death in the Family
Quarantine	Weather or Road Conditions Making Travel Dangerous
Participation in School Activities with the Permission of the Principal	Emergencies or Unusual Circumstances Recognized by the Principal or Person Designated

The reason for an excused absence must be stated in writing and signed by the parent or legal guardian. The written excuse must be received by the school within three days after the absence.

Perfect attendance includes being on time every day. No student is permitted to leave school during school hours unless picked up by his parent. If the child must leave school for some reason, the parent must report to the office and sign the child out. We will ask for identification and will not release your child if you do not have it.
