I was born and raised in Houston, Texas.  I graduated from University of St. Thomas with a Bachelor in Education and a Masters in Counseling.  I have taught for almost 9 years both third and fifth grade.  Currently I teach 5th grade math at Valley West.  My philosophy regarding education and life in general is suit up, show up, and never give up.  Our children are capable of accomplishing all that they can imagine.

Rodolfo Contreras

My name is Mr. Contreras and I am in my seventh year as an educator.  Currently, I am teaching a self-contained fourth grade class.  I firmly believe that education is the only tool to solve the problems in our society and the gateway to a brighter tomorrow.  All children can learn and it is up to the teacher to make the instruction interesting and relevant to their academic needs; consequently, they will become intrinsic learners.

For the best interest of our children...

Audrey Kenley

I am currently the Fourth Grade Language Arts Teacher at Valley West Elementary School.  I am entering my twentieth year of teaching experience in HISD.    I really enjoy working with children, teaching new ideas and strategies that will help them in developing their thinking, and in their discovery of our world and all its wonderment.

My philosophy lies somewhere in the belief that “If you give a man a fish then he will eat for a day, But if you teach a man to fish then he will eat for a lifetime.”  It is my hope that the time spent with my students will be meaningful and reflective.  I hope that whatever is remembered from their fourth grade experience will be worthwhile.  If that’s possible then at the end of the day, I will feel rewarded.

I will encourage my students to remember that each one learns at his own pace.  The most important thing is that one learns.
