Heidi Mao

I am Heidy Mao. I
have been teaching Pre-Kindergarten for 24 years, four years at Valley West
Elementary School. I speak, read and write both Chinese and English. My
special focus is teaching our children to be independent learners. I
accomplish this by emphasizing that doing your best is the first step in starting
a task. My philosophy of education is that all children can learn.
My motto is: you must try then you will know. |

Vivian Matthews

My
birth was a result of a tragedy that turned into a victory. Why, because
America bombed my mother's country of Japan, and my father Mr. Felix Amaya
Flores married into the Yamasita family. The result was two siblings born in
Japan and Vivian to be born on a small Air Base located in the Rio Grande
Valley near Brownsville, Texas. After being raised to be scholarly and
conscientious, I graduated and was the youngest recipient of a National
Scholarship. Given the opportunity to go anywhere in the U.S., I was soon
exposed to the educational environments of Texas Christian University, and
the University of Texas. I graduated from the University of Texas and
delighted the valley folks by returning to educate their children. My
strict upbringing would be an influence on my five children, Celeste
Anderson, now an English teacher, Thomas Anderson, a graduate of the
University of Texas, Phillip Anderson, soon to graduate from DeBakey High
School for the Health Professions, and two designated G.T. daughters, Myliza
Matthews and Mailing Matthews. My future aspirations should lead me to
conquering that which cannot be resolved by a very desperate world.
