Third Grade News

J. Brian Roswell

I entered the education field after eight years of corporate business.  Graduated from Texas A&M University with a Marketing Degree.  I am currently pursuing a Masters Degree in Education from the University of St. Thomas.

My passion to teach every child to "Think and Reason" is my ultimate goal.  Throughout the course of this year, I plan to take each student one step closer to their potential.

Erica Rudolph

My current teaching position is third grade.  I have taught 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades.  I am responsible for nurturing young, bright and eager minds.  This has always been my  teaching philosophy...."Give the students what he/ she needs and watch them grow!"  I grew up in a household of educators, who instilled in me, knowledge is power...pass it on!

Silvia Cansinos

I am a certified Elementary Bilingual Teacher, holding a Bachelor of Sciences degree in Physics, and have studies toward a Master Degree in System Information. I worked in my home country – Argentina - as a System Manager before coming to Houston. I love being a teacher. I really enjoy teaching young people in their mother language and I am committed to making a difference in their lives.

Alvin Edwards

I am a member of the third grade team at Valley West Elementary. I’ve taught 3rd and 4th grade in HISD.  I’m from Ville Platte, Louisiana.  Missouri City, Texas has been my home for the last 6 ½ years.  I’m a graduate of Grambling State University.  I come from a family of educators.  My inspiration comes from my late mother who was a third grade and kindergarten teacher.

I’ve been around children all of my life and I love working with children and nurturing them. I have high expectations from each student.  Education is a must in today’s society. Students need to know that becoming professional athletes and entertainers is not the only way to be successful.  I am also a role model to the future young men of this community.  We must work together to have a great year. Please   explain to your children that they are representing you everyday and they should behave accordingly.  Students should come to school expecting to learn something new everyday.  I look forward to working with you and your child this year.

Parent/Teacher Conference: 11:30-12:00 Daily

School starts promptly at 7:45 and marked TARDY if the students are NOT at their desks working.

Attendance and Tardy

  • Every absence must be followed by a signed note from the parent stating the nature reason for the absence.

  • Make sure that your child is in his/her assigned area by 7:45 a.m. to be admitted to class. After the 7:50 a.m. morning bell, students will not be allowed to enter the classroom without a tardy slip from the office. Excessive tardiness will affect your child's academic status.

In order to provide a productive learning environment students must listen and learn, respect others, raise hand to speak or get out of seat, and be courteous.

Homework will be sent home Monday through Thursday and students MUST read for 20 MINUTES daily.

Tuesday Folders are sent weekly to update parents/guardians of your child's progress.  If you wish to set up a conference, please call the school (713) 773-6151.
