Parents and students at HISD’s Wainwright Elementary (5330 Milwee, 77092) will meet with college representatives to learn about the importance of getting a higher education, during the school’s first elementary college night at 5:30 p.m., January 8, in the Wainwright Elementary School cafeteria.

“We decided to host this event because so often our children don’t hear about college early enough,” said Principal Dr. John Barrera.  “We know if we plan the seed early, then the possibilities are endless and in today's world the need for a college education is elementary.”

Wainwright’s college night will serve as the first introduction to college for most students.  The children and their families will have the opportunity to meet with representatives from colleges and universities including Houston Baptist University, Baylor University, University of St. Thomas, Prairie View A&M University, Texas Southern University, Stephen F. Austin University, University of Houston, Sam Houston State University, and Lamar University.

Parents also will receive valuable information on how to start preparing their children and their finances for college and will hear about programs that are available to help with the expense.

Wainwright Elementary has a Math and Science Magnet Program and is a Texas Education Agency Recognized School.
