Lance in 2007

I’m doing it again.  On April 21-22, 2007, I will join thirteen thousand other cyclists for the MS 150 Bike Tour.  Although this two-day Tour from Houston to Austin is not a race, it raises money for the race to find the cure for multiple sclerosis.  Last year, 13,000 cyclists raised $11.4 million to help 17,000 Texans living with MS, a degenerative disease of the central nervous system. Researchers are making progress, but the cause and cure are still over the horizon.

Part of being a rider is to obtain pledges of support from family and friends.  Last year’s fundraising was very successful, and I was able to raise about $2,500 for the cause.  All proceeds benefit the National MS Society’s research and chapter programs.

This year, Amy’s niece Ali will be riding as well.  As many of you may remember from last year’s letter, Ali has multiple sclerosis.  She’s doing great with her treatment and will probably beat me to Austin.  She recently opened her own photography business and will take some great shots along the way.

In order to ride, a rider must commit to raise $500.  I hate asking for money (despite my profession), so Amy and I plan on donating at least that amount ourselves to cover the requirement.  Any additional amounts from friends and family will be more money for the fight against this debilitating disease.  Please don't feel pressured in any way, but if you would like to help and can spare a few tax deductible dollars; I would be most grateful, as would the people who suffer from this disease.
