Shallow Pond
West U's Wildlife Sanctuary is a beautiful place.
It's where people can go to lighten up their face.
It's where animals come freely to eat and to bathe.
It's where the children of West U. go to learn about nature's little secrets .

Texas Screech Owl seen in Sanctuary

The Environmental Institute of Houston has named the West University Elementary School's Wildlife Sanctuary an "Outstanding Outdoor Classroom" of the greater Houston area. While providing an abundance of native plant species, a shallow pond, and good shelter for cocoons, the school has succeeded in attracting an impressive variety of butterflies, including migratory monarchs, to their urban site. The students have been visiting the sanctuary to count the pupa and chrysalises forming.  The second grade students get so excited when they find the green chrysalis under the window ledges.
