Robotics

Applications are available for the next club starting after spring break.  In Dec. we participated in the EARLY Robotics competition. (EARLY) Tournament will be held at Hogg Middle School. Click on the link to see the pictures. We will be participating in the Robofest Challenge in April.

The Monthly Mustang  meets Tuesdays in the computer lab from 2:30-3:15 p.m. Watch the Pony Express for recruitment announcements. Currently all positions are full.

Easy Tech Learning.com
This year HISD has renewed the license for this online training for the entire student body. Easy Tech provides online training for our students , teachers and parents in software applications. Easy Tech' s curriculum has been adopted by the state of Texas for teaching computer applications.  4th and 5th grade students have been given their usernames and passwords. We have also set up generic accounts for all K-3 students as well as for teachers and parents. Usernames and passwords were published in the Pony Express.
Email: Michael Connolly for help logging in. 4th and 5th Grade Students are required to complete 1 lesson on Learning.com after each computer lab. Completion of the homework is part of the 9 weeks grade.

Typing
Touch typing will become more important as your child begins middle school.   To prepare I recommend students practice on a daily basis for 20 minutes.  It is important they use the proper fingering technique when the practice. HISD schools and many private schools use
Type to Learn 3  You can order this program by putting a check in my box made out to Scholastic software for $14.95.  Be sure to attach a note with your child's name and homeroom teacher.  Another good program is Mavis Teaches Typing. There is also practice available online at www.learning.com email Michael Connolly for the username and password.

Volunteers are appreciated for K - 3 grade  computer labs. Times are below. To find out when your child's class is coming to the lab see the ancillary schedules Contact Sabrina Provencher or Mike Connolly if you would like to help. Two volunteers are best for lower grades (K-2) and one volunteer is sufficient for 3rd grade classes.  Volunteers are generally not needed for 4th and 5th grade unless we are doing a special project.  For example each 5th grade class will be producing a News program video.  Volunteers can help when we send different film crews to different parts of the campus.  Email us if you are interested and we will let you know when we will be taping our next project.

Scholastic Software Order forms are given out to the students during computer class.  Each month different titles are offered.  There is a great selection of educational programs and typing programs. Some type of free offer is made each month usually listed at the top of the first page. 19.95 or more.   Recommendations Type to Learn 3, Cross Country USA 2, Photosafari, A to Zap and Kid Pix Studio  4 & Art Workshop Value Pack.

Grading Policy

In grades 3-5 students will be graded on completed work, classroom behavior and following instructions both verbal and written. The grading scale is E, S U, N.
