Wharton Mock Primary Results are in! On Monday and Tuesday,
March 3rd and 4th, students in 3rd through 6th grades participated in a
mock Texas Primary election to select the presidential candidate
they would most like to see in the White House.

 Rosetta Stone Online Language Learning
Access Wharton Elementary has recently purchased a
subscription to Rosetta Stone’s Online Language Learning
Software through June 29, 2008. Most of our students (Kinder
through 6th Grade) have already been given their usernames and
passwords that will allow them to access the program from both
school and home. Kindergarten through 4th grade students will be
working on expanding their Spanish language repertoire. Fifth and
sixth grade students will be focused on either Spanish or English,
depending on their area of need. As a parent at Wharton Elementary
School, you are
entitled to an account with Rosetta Stone as well. It is recommended (but not mandatory) that
you have a high-speed internet connection (i.e. DSL or cable).
If you are interested in using the Rosetta Stone online
software, please
download this form and return it to Jason Coleman, Wharton
Technology Specialist or e-mail the information to
jcolema3@houstonisd.org.

Congratulations Ms. Sifuentes and Ms. Sweeney!
Ms. Sofía Sifuentes was recently named Wharton's
Bilingual Teacher of the Year and Ms. Carlota Sweeney was named
Wharton's ESL Teacher of the Year. Ms. Sifuentes has also just
recently been named Bilingual Teacher of the Year for HISD's
Central Region which means she will be a candidate for HISD
Bilingual Teacher of the Year later this spring! Congratulations
to both teachers. We are very proud of their accomplishment.

 Lyric
Vaughn Recognized by ISA and HISD
Lyric was one of several students that were honored by
the International Spanish Academy and HISD for her essay (in
Spanish) detailing why it is important to be bilingual in today's
global community. Lyric did a fantastic job representing Wharton
Elementary as she read her essay aloud to the audience that
included our Central District Superintendent, HISD School Board
President, and the Spanish Consulate from Spain. Every one of them
was impressed with Lyric's writing and oral presentation. The
Consulate even took the time to personally congratulate Lyric and
her mother after the award ceremony. Congratulations Lyric!
