Gifted and Talented - At Wilson we believe in a combination of acceleration and enrichment for our gifted students. All students receive classroom instruction at the appropriate level to provide acceleration in each academic area. For both enrichment and acceleration, the G/T program at Wilson Elementary is project-based at all grade levels. Teams of teachers have created 9-week units based on a theme or topic. Each student is given the list of projects at the beginning of the nine weeks. All students may participate in this by working on these special assignments at home and at school. G/T students must complete all of the assigned projects.
These programs are designed to meet the needs of the
G/T students at their neighborhood, zoned school or Magnet school.
Neighborhood K-12 G/T programs provide a learning continuum that is
differentiated in depth, complexity, and pacing. The Neighborhood G/T
program is designed for G/T students who excel in general intellectual
ability in combination with creative/productive thinking and/or
leadership ability. TEA requires that all kindergarten students have the
opportunity to apply for Neighborhood G/T during the fall semester. If
kindergarten applicants are identified, they are provided services at
the beginning of their spring semester. For more information about our Neighborhood G/T Program please contact our GT Coordinator.
