Arrival of

School Hours:
7:30AM-2:45 PM
Students are considered tardy at 7:55 AM.
Students who arrive late should go to the main office for a late
permit. Tardies that are not accompanied by a note are
considered unexcused. Students should report to the cafeteria
upon arrival to the school each morning.

Instructional Programs
Regular Program:
Addresses the needs of students performing at grade level
(PreK-5)
S.I.G.H.T.S.: (Supplemental
Instruction of Gifted and High Achieving or Talented Students)
addresses the needs of students who are capable of moving at an
accelerated rate.
Title I: Federally
funded supplementary services that provide academic and social
programs to students in grades PreK to 5th.
Special Education: Addresses
the needs of students who require special individualized
instruction in mastery.
Speech: A branch
of Special Education that addresses the needs of students who
require speech therapy.

Enrollment Cards
An enrollment card for each student must be on
file in the office. In the event your child becomes ill at
school, the school nurse or a member of the office staff will
contact you so that you can provide care instructions or come to
pick the child up. If there is a change of address or
telephone number during the school year, please notify the
school office. It is very important for the safety of our
youngsters that emergency numbers are kept updated during the
year.

Field Trips
Before going on a field trip, each student
must return to school an official written field trip permission
form signed by his/her parent or guardian.
Notes and telephone calls cannot be accepted as a
form of permission to attend a field trip.

Textbooks
Students are responsible for the books they
are issued and for books they check out from the library.
Textbooks are issued to each student during the first week of
school. Each textbook issued is recorded by number and
condition. A fee is charged for lost ad damaged books according
to the HISD policy. Failure to return or pay for damages shall
result in forfeiting the right to free textbooks.

Medication
HISD Policy states school personnel are not to
administer medical treatment of medication, including
over-the-counter drugs. If you child is on a short-term
medication, such as an antibiotic, please schedule the dosage so
that he receives a morning does and the remaining dose when he
returns from school. Please cooperate with us by following the
above guidelines. The health and safety of your children are
our prime concern.
Students on long-termed medication who must
have medication administered during the school hours. may take
medication only if a physician has stated in writing that the
pupil should have a certain medication during the school hours.
Form #40.3740, which is available from the nurse, must be
signed and on file before any long-term medication may be given.

Classroom Visits
Parents of Alcott's students are welcomed and
encouraged to visit our school. Visitation must be restricted
to the class in which your child is a member and scheduled at a
time convenient for the class. Parents must sign in at the
office and secure a visitor's badge before going to the
classrooms.

Parent-Teacher Conferences
Parent-teacher conferences are encouraged. A
parent may request a conference by sending a written note with
the child to the teacher or by calling the school office and
leaving a telephone message. Parents, please schedule the
conference during the teacher's planning time because the
teacher cannot stop to conference during the instructional day.

Grading
All grades will be determined by regular
attendance, consistent daily preparation, promptness in
completing assignments, and the quality of completed work.

Discipline Policy
Effective discipline is essential to
establishing a school wide environment conducive to learning.
The Houston Independent School District's Code of Student
Conduct provides a discipline management plan which outlines
appropriate disciplinary consequences for various kinds of
misconduct. Alcott Elementary will utilize a Progressive Five
Step Approach which enforces fair and consistent application of
the code.
From the classroom to the cafeteria,
enforcement of the Code of Student Conduct will be uniform and
consistent.

- Take care of the school property.
- Prepare for class with appropriate
materials and completed assignment.
Cafeteria Rules
- Enter the cafeteria silently.
- Walk at all times.
- Eat silently. Then you may use a whisper
voice.
- Clean your area
Hallway Rules
- Walk at all times.
- Classes should walk in a straight line.
- Do not make noise in the hallway.
- Walk with arms folded.

Uniforms-Mandatory Dress Code
Alcott Elementary School recognizes the
importance of encouraging high standards in dress and personal
grooming. We require all students to wear the Alcott uniform,
which includes the following:
Tops: White, light blue or navy
blue colored shirts. Solid color sweatshirts, turtlenecks or
sweaters may be worn during cold weather. Shirts must be tucked
in at al times. T-shirts may not be worn as a uniform. Belts
must be worn.
Bottoms: Navy blue pants or
uniform shorts for boys. Navy blue jumpers, skirts, skorts, or
shorts for girls. No blue jeans may be worn in place of uniform
pants.
In addition to the above, expensive jewelry,
dangling earrings and earrings for boys are not allowed. No
body piercing or tattoos. Hairstyles that disrupt the classroom
are not permitted.
