ROY PEREZ BENAVIDEZ

"Tango Mike/Mike" was the radio call sign for Medal of Honor designee Green Beret Sergeant Roy Perez Benavidez.  This former migrant worker was  from El Campo, Texas.   During his second tour of duty Roy Benavidez became a Special Forces legend.  Several of his comrades operating deep inside Cambodia under secret CIA and presidential direction had been surrounded by hundreds of North Vietnamese enemy soldiers.  Although seriously wounded, Mr. Benavidez personally saved eight American soldiers and retrieved and destroyed nearly all of their top secret documents and communications equipment to prevent it from falling into enemy hands!  Roy P. Benavidez is a real hero and role model for all of us.  We, at Benavidez Elementary, feel tremendous pride that we are part of the HISD School hat bears his name.  Mr. Benavidez was born, reared in El Campo, Texas and continues to be OUR HERO!
