An Environmental Science Magnet School

At Berry we exist to develop our students’ knowledge, social consciousness, and their ability to be stewards of our great planet Earth.  Berry Elementary School is an environmental science magnet school.  We look at science as a part of our everyday experience.  Science is an area that students enjoy and can connect with while developing critical thinking skills. 

Students at Berry receive their Science instruction through six science labs.  Students will experience four labs per year rotating every nine week period. During the nine week period they will receive instruction through hands-on, inquiry based, science units as well as magnet units which go deeper into the field of environmental science.

Science Lab opportunities :

            Eco-P Lab – grades Pre-Kinder - 2  

            Eco-I Lab – grades 2-5

            Geology Lab

            SciTech Lab

            Geology Lab

            Energy and Change Lab

            Environmental Health and Systems (EHS) Lab

 

Science continues outside of the lab...

In their classroom, students work on integrated curriculum projects that are developed by the classroom teacher with input and guidance from the science lab teachers.  These projects are in concert with what the students are doing in Science Lab.  These projects are meant to demonstrate to students that learning is not segmented into categories but inter-related across the areas of Reading , Math, Language Arts, Writing, and Social Studies.
