The Houston Independent School District is the largest public school system in Texas and the seventh   largest in the United States. Our schools are dedicated to giving every student the best possible education through an intensive core curriculum and specialized, challenging instructional and career programs. HISD is working hard to become Houstonians’ K-12 school system of choice, constantly  improving and refining instruction and management to make them as effective, productive,

Houston Independent School District Regional Offices are responsible for administrative oversight,

service support and parental assistance for an average of fifty schools in each region.

 

 

The Houston A+ Challenge is a not-for-profit public, private partnership directing the largest single

sum of private money ever dedicated to public school reform in the Greater Houston area. The Challenge develops and funds school programs, professional development and leadership institutes to promote higher academic achievement by all students using the principles of Whole School Reform.

Success For All is a comprehensive reading and writing program. The program emphasizes prevention

and early intervention to solve learning problems. Success for All provides schools with research-based curriculum materials, extensive professional development in instruction, assessment, and classroom management, one on one tutoring for primary grade children who need it, and active family support interventions.

The SPARK School Park Program is a non-profit organization operating out of the City of Houston

Mayor's office. Developed in 1983 as a way to increase park space in Houston, Texas, Former City

Council Member, Eleanor Tinsley, created SPARK to develop public school grounds into neighborhood parks. An inter-local agreement, one of the first in Houston, between the city, the Houston Parks Board

and the school district, formally established the SPARK program.  SPARK combines the resources of

 the Department of Housing and Community Development, seven local school districts, Harris County, the private sector, neighborhood group, PTA/PTO groups and concerned citizens
