Communities in Schools (CIS) is a non- profit organization that encourages
at-risk students to remain in school by providing and coordinating social
services that meet their physical and emotional needs. CIS Houston is the
oldest and the largest school dropout prevention programs in Texas.
We provide our program year-round to at risk children and their families.
CIS has 100 programs in elementary, middle, and high schools in four school
districts: Houston, Spring Branch, Alief, and Fort Bend.
CIS
offers six core services at the school campus: Tutoring/Mentoring,
Supportive Guidance, Parental Involvement, Cultural Enrichment, Career
Awareness, and Referrals to Other Social Services. This holistic approach to
dropout prevention addresses the physical, emotional, and academic needs of
at-risk children and provides them with a ‘safety net’ at the school site.
