  Communities in Schools (CIS)

Communities in Schools (CIS) is a non- profit organization that encourages at-risk students to remain in school by providing and coordinating social services that meet their physical and emotional needs. CIS Houston is the oldest and the largest school dropout prevention programs in Texas. We provide our program year-round to at risk children and their families. CIS has 100 programs in elementary, middle, and high schools in four school districts: Houston, Spring Branch, Alief, and Fort Bend.

CIS offers six core services at the school campus: Tutoring/Mentoring, Supportive Guidance, Parental Involvement, Cultural Enrichment, Career Awareness, and Referrals to Other Social Services. This holistic approach to dropout prevention addresses the physical, emotional, and academic needs of at-risk children and provides them with a ‘safety net’ at the school site. Please contact Rose Amaro at (713) 926-7061 for more information.

  GED Classes

Free General Education Development (GED) classes are held for adults who wish to work towards earning a high school equivalency diploma.  Upon completion of this course, adults are eligible to take the GED exam.  GED Diplomas are important because more than 95% of U.S. employers consider GED graduates the same as traditional high school graduates in regards to hiring, salary and opportunity for advancement.  Classes are held Tuesdays and Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in rm. 104 throughout the school year.  Interested persons should register with Rose Amaro at (713) 926-7061.
  Parenting Clases

We proudly offer parenting information to assist you in raising self-reliant, responsible human beings. Learn how to parent with influence and cooperation instead of domination and control. Classes are held Mondays from 8:00 to 10:30 a.m. If you would like to attend this class, please contact Rose Amaro at (713) 926-7061.
