Loss in our Condit Community. On Monday November 2nd Juan Alanis, father to Lorena in pre-k (Speert) and Lisbeth in kindergarten (Higgins) as well as a young son was tragically killed.  Juan was very involved in his daughters’ lives here at Condit helping in the classroom and with our first field trip. He was a very positive person, shaking your hand, and always asking if we needed anything for our classes. If you would like to help the family with a contribution (cash, gift certificates for food, and checks payable to his wife Diana Solis Alanis), you can send it to your child’s homeroom teacher or place it in the box in the office.   We know that all contributions would be greatly appreciated. Many Thanks!!!

New Check-In System – “The Raptor  When you come to the school to visit or to volunteer, simply scan your Driver License (or other state-issued ID) and the system will print a visitor badge featuring your name, photo, date and time, and destination.  After the first time you register in the system, you will no longer need to scan your ID.  The next time you visit Condit and any time thereafter, you will be able to use the self-serve kiosk to print a visitor badge.  Schools and community facilities across the country use Raptor's V-soft visitor management and screening technology to help protect children from sex offenders, domestic dispute offenders, and other trespassers. Now Condit Elementary has this technology too.  This technology adds an extra layer of security to keep Condit students safe. We are very excited to have this new system in place, and it is all for the safety of our children! Donations to our Reach for the Stars campaign funded this purchase.

Pershing Middle School holds joint Zoned/Magnet Open House The time is here to start learning about and visiting your middle school options in preparation for next school year.  On Monday, November 16, 2009 at 6 pm Pershing Middle School will hold an open house for parents of students zoned to Pershing and parents of students interested in Pershing’s Fine Arts magnet program. The open house will begin with a general session in the auditorium. A variety of staff members will tell you about the excellent programs and departments Pershing has to offer.

The Shared Decision Making Committee reviews items that affect Condit as a whole.   It is comprised of the principal, staff representatives, faculty representatives, community representatives, and two parent representatives.  Jay Aiyer and Charie Procter are your parent representatives on the SDMC.  If you have an issue or idea that you would like to bring to the SDMC's attention, please place it in the SDMC box located in the main office.

Art Volunteer needed Are you a first grade parent suffering from withdrawal after a year of kindergarten parties, field trips, and volunteering in the classroom?  Do you love art?  We are looking for a volunteer for Mrs. Parker's 1st grade class on Wednesday's from 8:20-9:05 to help the teacher. Your assistance will allow these creative young artists to blossom.  There is no experience needed and will be a lot of fun! Please contact art coordinator Vicki Sandifer by email:   vickie32699@yahoo.com or cell: 281-857-9249

Got Wheels??? Condit's Odyssey team is looking for donated wheels of any type, big or small, to use in their long-term project (bike, wheelchair, rolling chairs, etc.)  We will pick up and take apart if needed.  Contact Jennifer Macia at jlmacia@comcast.net if you have anything we can use.

Get power out of your purchases and support Condit. Kroger stores: Kroger shoppers have to re-link their cards to Condit, due to a change in the program.  See the recent flyer for a new barcode to scan.

Power for Schools program: Three power providers have worked with HISD to offer their lowest rates possible to school supporters. Go to www.powerforschools.org and see if this makes sense for your situation.  Condit will receive a small monthly fee at no cost to you.
