HISD - Crockett ES (Our School)

School History & Mission

Crockett was a hunter, a scout, a soldier, and a politician. He was born in Greene County, Tennessee, on August 17, 1786. He joined several men at a fort in San Antonio called the Alamo in 1836. Crockett and the others fought off Mexican troops for nearly two weeks. Brave until the end, he died on March 6 defending the Alamo. The school named for him was constructed in 1912 and after several years later the school was replaced with a new building in 1980.

Our schools mission is focused on creating an outstanding learning environment through instruction in reading, writing, math, science, social studies, fine arts and technology. Parental education is a continuous educational component.Grades K through 5 students are enrolled at the Crockett Elementary School Campus located on Crockett St. while the Pre-Kindergarten program is served by the nearby Crockett's Early childhood Center Campus located at Houston Avenue.

Academic & Student Assessment

Crockett Elementary follows state guidelines andadministersthe Texas Assessment of Knowledge & Skills (TAKS) test and other District-mandatedtests each year. The nine-week grade report periods are used to inform parents of the academic of their children. Students have done remarkably well in the recently concluded 2008 TAKS test. Based on most recent student performance, the school is rated by TEA (Texas Education Authority) as a EXEMPLARY school. Crockett Elementary is among the top 30% of all the HISD schools.
