Mrs. Oyekan won the prestigious Japan Fulbright Memorial Fund (JFMF), an award that involved her traveling to Japan in October, 2008. This twenty one day professional development trip was designed by the Japanese government to immerse American educators into the Japanese culture, education, government, economy, language, cuisine, people, and art. During their stay teachers and administrators will tour different countries in Japan, visit schools, attend several round-table conferences, one-on-one interactions with the Japanese, and a home-stay with a host family.  When they return to school they are expected to integrate international perspectives, methodologies, and relate actual experiences to students in grades first through five.
