Ballet Folklorico

Franklin Elementary Ballet Folklorico is a program providing elementary youth with a unique
opportunity to expand their cultural heritage and to promote the traditions and colorful Mexican Folklore. This program was started back in August of 2005 by Victor Rocha(SIMS Clerk) and Maria Picon(5th Grade Teacher). Several Franklin teachers have provided their support including Ms. Patricia Perez(3rd Grade Teacher) and Eduardo Aguirre(1st Grade Teacher). There are currently 52 student members and the number is growing. Since its founding, the group has had the privilege to perform at numerous cultural and educational events: Texas Association for Bilingual Education Conference, Gulf Coast Community Services Association, CAN Academy, Clear Lake City-County Freeman Branch Library, Fine Arts Festival at Austin High School, South Houston Library. At each event, Franklin students proudly display their Mexican culture through the art of dance.
