The Houston Rockets, Houston’s incomparable NBA team, has initiated an extraordinary partnership for change with area schools. Since 2002, Franklin has been fortunate to be included in this initiative -- matching our student’s favorite books with computer-assisted tests that earn our students valuable “accelerated reader” points. Upon reaching their reading goals, students are rewarded with tickets to local Rockets games and have the opportunity to meet famous players like Yao Ming.

More than a reading incentive program, the “Read to Achieve!” initiative has been a multicultural experience that has inspired young learners to become part of a literate, healthy, and inclusive society. The Houston Comets, the WNBA’s professional basketball team for women, have gone out of their way to bring this message to the Franklin campus. As they spoke about their experiences, girls and boys learned how reading and exercise are fun activities for everyone.

Franklin Elementary School appreciates the Houston Rockets and the Houston Comets for supporting its educational mission of “preparing good students and good people for the future.” Together, let’s keep our students reading.
