Student Dress Code
We require parents to dress their
children in school uniforms. This decision was made by the Shared
Decision Making Committee based upon Texas Senate Bill 1. We feel
that having uniform dress will minimize peer pressure, inappropriate
dress, and teasing among students. Students will be expected to
wear the following uniform:
Girls and Boys
- Black jeans.
- Black or khaki slacks.
- Warm-ups and stirrup pants,
cargo pants; oversized or baggie pants are not acceptable.
- Pants must be of the correct
size and worn with a belt.
Uniform Red or White Collared
Shirts.
- Shirts may not have any type of
decoration or logo.
- Shirts must be worn tucked
inside the pants.
Uniform Red, White, or Black
Sweaters or Sweatshirts
- Sweaters or sweatshirts must be
a solid color, and may not have any type of decoration or logo if
they are going to be worn at school.
Appropriate shoes and socks
- No sandals or backless shoes.
Girls
Uniform black or khaki jumper, or
the original red and black plaid jumper. Uniform black or khaki
skirt or shorts of an appropriate length.
- Gallegos sweatshirts may be worn
at any time as long as a red or white collared shirt is worn
underneath. Gallegos T-shirts may only be worn on Fridays for
Spirit Day.
- Jewelry and accessories should
be left at home. Students may wear inexpensive and durable
watches.
- Black or khaki shorts may be
worn by PK and K students ONLY.
If your child is not wearing the
school uniform on a regular basis, the following consequences will
be put into effect:
- Consequence #1 - Parents
will be called and asked to bring a uniform to school for the
child to wear. If this cannot be arranged, the student will have
to change into something provided by the school.
- Consequence #2 - Parents
will be notified. Students refusing to cooperate will be given
detention on the same day that they not wear their uniform.
Students will change clothes. Parents will have to make
arrangements to pick up their child at 4:00 p.m. following uniform
detention.
- Consequence #3 - Parents
will be notified. Students will change clothes. Parents will
conference with the assistant principal. Possible suspension based
on refusal to follow school wide mandatory dress code.
Backpacks
- AS A SAFETY PRECAUTION,
STUDENTS ARE ASKED TO CARRY CLEAR VINYL BACKPACKS.
