Music, Dancing and Poetry from around the World
On Monday, December 10, 2006, first, third and fifth grade Kolter students participated in a Winter Celebrations Multicultural Program showcasing the sights and sounds of the holiday season in Japan, France, Spain and Mexico. The fifth graders wrote and performed their own entertaining skits, highlighting the customs and celebrations that take place around the world. The performances included "New Years in Japan," "Winter Celebrations in France," "Festival de las Mascaras," "Radishes Festival," and "El Ano Nuevo en Espana."
Interspersed with the skits were lively songs, beautiful poetry, and exciting dances by the third and fifth grade dance students. The dances included a martial arts themed dance, dancing clowns and three different Spanish dances. The final Spanish dance, "Las Uvas," ended with dancers running through the crowd! And for the grand finale, the first graders took the stage to sing "International Jingle Bells". All the parents, students and staff wished each other a safe and happy holiday as they hummed the tune on the way home.
Kolter is an HISD "Exemplary" magnet school for French, Japanese, Chinese and Spanish foreign languages.
