PRINCIPAL MESSAGE
As I complete my first year as Principal at Mitchell, there is a lot of reflection to be done as we prepare to move forward. As mentioned before, our campus has faced some very challenging situations beginning with the move of half our students & teachers to DeAnda Elementary, staff departures, and start of construction & renovations. Through it all, the staff has worked hard to keep the focus on our students and their academic and social-emotional needs. We have invited outside representatives to speak to our children about the importance of being good citizens, demonstrating appropriate behavior, and have encouraged them to think about their future. We have worked hard to increase and improve communication between parents and school leaders. We have attempted to offer extracurricular activities for our students such as after-school clubs, Spelling & Reading Competitions, school dances, and movie night along with Family Literacy Nights and Parent-Teacher conferences. Aside from this, we have tried to improve the way our building looks and have encouraged everyone to do their part and to take pride in our school community by keeping it clean.
For those of you whose children will be moving on, it has been a pleasure. For those who will return, we ask for your continued support as we strive for excellence. We must all do our part to ensure that the students are successful. Speak to your children about the importance of being responsible students who are on time daily and arrive prepared, the need to solve problems in an acceptable manner, and how to treat others well while accepting the differences which exist between each person. One day, they will be the leaders. We hope that they will make our communities better through their actions and contributions.
Important Forms
Pre-printed enrollment forms- You should have received a green form with pre-printed information. Please review the information and make any necessary corrections before returning it with your child. If changes aren’t necessary, simply write…no changes needed and return it to the school.
Parent Surveys- Please take a moment to read the letter which will be sent home with your child on Monday, May 7th which will provide information about the surveys which need to be completed and returned to school. Since we are a Title I campus who receive federal funding from the government, this information is being collected by the district in an effort to gather input and feedback from you.
World’s Finest Chocolate- Our chocolate sale is underway and will continue through May 11th. Please submit your candy requests to the main office along with the money. Chocolate will not be sent home if payment has not been received. Your support is greatly appreciated.
Reminders
Summer School- Summer School will be held at DeAnda Elementary due to the construction and renovation work which is soon to begin here at Mitchell. Students will attend June 11-July 12. This is a temporary move and more information will be sent home with those students who did not/will not meet district Promotion Standards. Transportation will be provided and notices will be sent home soon.
Award Ceremonies- See your child’s teacher for more information. Tuesday, May 29th – PK @ 8:30 a.m.; Kinder @ 1:15 p.m.; Thursday, May 24th- 1st grade @ 8:30 a.m.; 2nd grade @ 1:15 p.m.; Friday, May 25th- 3rd @ 8:30 a.m.; 4th grade @ 1:15 p.m.; Wednesday, May 30th- 5th grade ceremony, luncheon, & dance. This is only for students.
Unpaid Meal Balances- If you have received notice from the school cafeteria that your child has an outstanding balance, it is extremely important that you attempt to resolve this as quickly as possible.
Textbooks & Library Books- If your child has misplaced or not returned any books belonging to the school, please assist them in doing so. Students will be charged for any lost or misplaced books.
