Government

The government hasn’t passed any law that has to do with trying to curb global warming except the Clean Air Act. Here is more about it:
☼The Clean Act reduces air polution with standards that reduce gasoline cunsumption by 20% over the next 10 years.
Bush sent the Congress a proposal that had two steps:
☼	First, to set a mandatory fuel standard, requiring 35 billion gallons of renewable and other alternative fuels by 2017. This amounts to nearly 5 times the target previously set for 2012, and was made to displace 15% of projected yearly gasoline use in the United States.
☼	Secondly, to continue the efforts to increase fuel efficiency by remodeling and modernizing Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) Standards for cars, and extending the current Light Truck Rule, with the intention of minimizing projected annual gasoline use in the United States by up to 8.5 billion gallons by 2017. This would bring a further 5% reduction that, in combination with increasing the supply of renewable and other alternative fuels, would bring the total reduction in projected yearly gasoline use to 20%.

A few years ago when George W. Bush was elected president of the United States, he refused the Kyoto Protocol, a protocal made by the United Nations. Of these, 36 developed countries (plus the EU as a party in its own right) were required to minimize greenhouse gas emissions to the levels specified for each of them in the treaty (representing over 61.6% of emissions from Annex I countries), with three more countries wanting to participate. One hundred and thirty-seven (137) developing countries have accepted the protocol, including Brazil, China, and India, but have no need beyond monitoring and reporting emissions.
