Dear Parents,

I hope that your spring break brought some rela= xation and family time. It is always a week for our staff to rejuvenate and prepare for the busy ten weeks of school that remain. They are filled with activity, so I encourage you to watch things coming home very closely.

Stanford test scores have been received and will be sent home next week with report cards. A big caution to parents – this is a new norming year for Stanford and results should not be used to compare to your child’s score last year. The district is aware and knows that t= here is much concern in the schools that this has taken place. They a= re preparing comparative data for us to use, but that will possibly not be completed for several weeks and I do not want you to wait to get data. The 2009 norms will be used for the future and comparisons will be made with this benchmark year.

Third and fifth grade<= /span> TAKS Reading overall scores have been received and results are exciting. Although we have some students who were absent and wi= ll be taking the test during the second administration in April, current scores stand at 97% passing in fifth grade and 100% passing in third. Indivi= dual score sheets for students should be received soon and will be sent home in sealed envelopes – possibly with the report cards, which go home next week. I am really proud of our students and staff!

Exhibition Mentoring 2009

Thank you to the 28 parents, teachers and commu= nity members that have already committed to mentoring a group of 5^th graders through Exhibition this spring.&nb= sp; We are still in need of volunteers and there is still time to get involved! We will have our fi= rst meeting this Friday

morning at 8am in the new conference room. If you have an interest in helping= , or need additional information before you commit, please plan to join us for t= his meeting. Mentors need to comm= it to seven 1 hour meetings with their students during the school day between now= and May 15^th. CARNIVAL HELP NEEDED

The carnival is in need of help from High School Students and/or Grandparents to help = with the carnival booths. We have so many fun booths planned that we don't have enough helpers! Good news! By overwhelming demand, we are extending the deadline for the Carnival T-s= hirts! You now have until THIS Friday, March 27t= h, to send in your order form. While you are there, take some time and look at all= the fun things we have planned for Saturday, April 18t= h! It is going to be great! TAKS Hall monitors needed

TAKS testing continues this month and we= need another round of volunteers to help monitor the halls during the TAKS 5^th Grade Math exam on Tuesday, April= 7. There is a signup sheet in the cafeteria if you want to sign up at drop off or pi= ck up.

We need 2 people for each shift:

8 a.m. – 10 = a.m.: &= nbsp; 1. Johnny Lam 2. &nbs= p;

10 a.m. – 12 noon: 1. &= nbsp; &nbs= p; 2.&nb= sp;

Art News:

Thank you to the following students (OM team) who came on Saturday to “Em= pty Bowls” event at Contemporary Craft Museum: Meredith Rasmussen, Lillian Evans, Will Foreman, Patrick Long-Quian, = and Patrick Revilla. Meredith was quoted in the = Houston Chronicle (Sunday edition) regarding our school’s participatio= n in this worthwhile social action project. Thanks also to Mrs. Foreman and Mrs.Long-Quian for supporting our efforts. The sale was a huge success and raised funds for the Food Pantry of Houston. We will have more bowls and artwork for = sale at the carnival in April with the funds benefiting the same cause. –Ms. Lieber
