Student academic performance has two important components. Academic achievement indicates whether a student meets a particular academic standard (for example, TAKS passing and commended levels). Academic growth measures improveme= nt in relationship to the student’s starting point. It is important that ea= ch child experiences both types of academic success…achievement and grow= th. This amazing learning community has the vision and capacity to make this a reality for our students.

Please join us for the Fun Run on Satur= day. My running shoes are ready to go! I am looking forward to a fun-filled morn= ing with our school community. Thanks to all the committee members for the preparations.

As a reminder, please make sure that car doors are locked and valuables are secured when parking in front of the building. We have had several reported thefts in the area. Have a great wee= k!

Moms and Dads try the competitive race! Let’s show the kids that everyone = is a winner who tries their best and finishes. Scott Wagner and I will be bringing in the rear, so don’t worry that you will be last.

As well, please encourage your children= to run the competitive race. We are trying a moonwalk this year and I

hope it won’t be a distraction. I= t will be turned off during the stretch and warm up lap. Afterward, they can play = on the

moonwalk. Please help us get them to the starting line when their grade is called.

Get there early! We will have Starbucks, chick-fil-a, and more. Registration is closed, but you can sign up the day = of the event. T-shirts will be delivered to your oldest child’s class on Wednesday. If there are any mistakes, email me or talk to registration on Saturday. Natalie.cordova@earthlink.net

sticker contest

Calling all budding artists! ROE’s PTO needs your help. We are looking for a winning drawing from one of our talented students to present on this year’s auction packets. How cool would that be to have your child’s creation help decorate the party? Each guest gets a pac= ket full of information and the winning drawing will be on each of those packets. Parents, please encourage your child to create a drawing wit= h a colorful, fall theme about our school and a message about helping our schoo= l by buying things at the Auction. We will have our 5^th graders in the Mini UN help with selecti= ng this year’s winner!!! The winning drawing will be turned into a sticker that will be on every packet! The contest will run from 10/6-10/16 and the entries should be placed in the “Sticker Contest” box located in the PTO Hallway. Parents, please try to refrain from “assisting” the children with their creations as we’d like the contest to remain fair. Fall Frenzy invitations

Mark your calendars for Friday, Novembe= r 6^thas ROE parents gather for Fall Frenzy 2009. The party is from 7-11 pm at the Houston Club, and everyone will be there. It's the school's most important parent social event in a relaxed atmosphere. Get a sitter or choose for your kids to be at the school lock-in for a fee. Sally Foster/Entertainment books

The orders have been submitted; however= , we can’t order the prizes for the E books until the remaining books are purchased or returned. Please return the book or submit payment for $= 20 (payable to ROE PTO) to the Sally Foster locker at the end of the kindergar= ten hall. The Sally Foster orders should arrive in a few weeks, please wa= tch the Green Sheet. The cookie dough is arriving the first week of November. Thank you for a great fund raiser. – Laura Fertak

Evaluation Committee: The ROE ASP Committee is asking for p= arents volunteers (maximum of 5) to set up an Evaluation Committee to set up a sys= tem for Evaluating the Enrichment Classes. This Committee will meet with Sylvia Ponce de Leon, the ASP Director during the 3rd week of October to discuss t= he details. This Committee will be responsible for creating an Evaluation Tool and setting up a schedule for Classroom Visitation. If interested, ple= ase email Sylvia Ponce de Leon at: ciasp2@sbcglobal.net

Enrichment Class Time: &nbs= p;Beginning October 5, the beginning and end times for Enrichment Classes will change. = Please note the time changes:

§ 1st Hour of Classes: 3:30-4:30

§ 2nd Hour of Classes: 4:35-5:35

§ Private Piano/Violin Classes: 3:30-4:00; 4:05 - 4:35; 4:40-5:10; 5:15-5:45=

Circle Drive Pickup Time: T= he Circle Drive Pick Up Time will be affected by the Enrichment Class time changes. Please note the following Circle Drive Pick up Times: 4:30 Pickup for end time of 1st hour of Enrichmen= t Classes 4:45 Pick up for Half Time Extended Day= 5:30 - 6:00 Pick up time for Extended Day an= d end time of 2nd Hour of Enrichment Classes

The times listed above are the only tim= es Circle Drive Pickup Time is available, as indicated. If you wish to pick up= your child at other times, you must p= ark on the designated parking spots (Circle Drive or on Avalon) and walk in to the building to pick up and sign out= your child. Full Time: If your child is enrolled in Full Time Extended Day and you need to pick up your child

earli= er than 5:30, you must walk into the building to sign him/her out. Your child will not be brought to the front circle drive earlier than 5:30.
