Happy New Year from the one and only Space Rangers!  We hope everyone had a great and restful holiday season.  As you know it has been extremely cold all over the country, including some very unseasonal temperatures in Houston. but it is supposed let up with some warmer weather.  As always, it is busy here in Rangerland and we have some very important news to report.

This month officially begins our testing season.  Kindergarten will doing Aprenda testing beginning January 11th and will be all week.  We also have Parent Teacher Conferences and Report Card Day on Friday, January 15th from 1:15 - 3:15. 

4th and 5th Grade Field Experiences Will Inspire Landscape Paintings

 

Mr. Bourquin, our art teacher, has started his own art blog page for Rodriguez.  Along with other art teachers in the West Region such as Briargrove ES and Harrod ES, Mr. Bourquin is using blogging as a means to promote and showcase the art program at Rodriguez.   He is using the recent 4th and 5th grade field trips around Houston to kick off the blog he began at the beginning of  2010.  The blog will feature updates on all things art related for Rodriguez ES.  To view his blog you may click on the following link to get to it:

Fund for Teachers The organization's next grant cycle is fast coming up and the deadline is Friday, January 29th.  For more information, please visit their website.  Recipients of this grant can receive up to $5,000 to develop their unique professional development experiences and ways to enrich their own teaching in classroom.  What way to spend your summer vacation!!!

And finally...

Our own David Gavarrette in 5th Grade participated in the MLK Oratory preliminary competition on Jan. 8, 2010 and placed!  He will be competing in the finals on Jan. 15th at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church of Christ.  Who knows, David may be our first Hispanic president.

We are so proud of him and wish him luck in the finals.
