Timeline

Parents, the West U Digital Publishing Fair offers your child a great opportunity to write.  Our West U Digital Publishing Fair will be held the evening of May 11th. We will present awards, have a book signing, and video and slideshow viewing to see what the students have created.  Last year we had sixty books, three multimedia shows and one story telling submitted by our students.  This year HISD will not sponsor the digital publishing Fair; however, we would like to continue the tradition here at West U because we have always produced winning entries. Almost any kind of book, slide show or digital video can be entered: Short Stories, Poetry Anthology, Electronic Book, Informational Book or Multimedia Project. Guidelines for each category can be found online at our West U Website-Digital Publishing Fair.
Students may work alone, with a partner, with a group or with their entire class.  It will be fun! To help them get started encourage them to write down their ideas for a book or movie.  If they want to work with someone, help them find time when they can get together to share ideas and divide the work.  For example, one student may want to ask another student to draw pictures for their book.  Students can use the equipment in the computer lab for creating their book or to record and edit their movie Mondays and Wednesday after school from 2:45-3:45 throughout the month of April. Keep your eye on the Pony Express and our school website so you can stay updated.  For more information contact Sabrina Provencher at sprovenc@houstonisd.org or Michael Connolly at mconnol1@houstonisd.org
