Executive Summary
School Overview
Whidby Elementary School is located in Houston’s South Union Community between Scott Street and Highway 288.  The South Union Community has been very supportive of Whidby’s efforts and endeavors.  Whidby, a Title 1 school, has an enrollment of five hundred and sixty-three (563) students. Whidby participates in Project GRAD, an innovative educational program to promote academic excellence.  The socio-economic status of the community varies from low to middle income. Eighty-two percent (82%) of the student receives free or reduced-price meals. The ethnicity of the school is as follows: African American eighty percent (80%), Hispanic eleven percent (11%), Anglo four percent (4%), and Asian five percent (5%).  The overall mobility rate is twenty-nine percent (29%).  A Montessori-Magnet School was added in 1982.  This school has an enrollment of one hundred thirty-two (132) students.  Three (3) year old students Primary Pre-Kindergarten (PPK) are accepted on a half-day tuition-paid basis.  Also, four (4) year old students are accepted on a full day tuition-paid basis.
