The Academies
Members of the academy consist of retired teachers and community members whose main goal is mentoring new teachers and providing professional development opportunities for mentors and mentees. The overall result is to build up collaboration, increase student achievement, and to personalize learning for the Whidby community.
Reading and Math Component
This component is created to help students with developing and evolving their reading and math skills to a higher level of learning. The staff is dedicated in providing small group instruction/tutoring and using new strategies and techniques to capture student interest.

The  Reading component offers the Reading Incentive Program (RIP) to all students in grades 1st - 3rd. The program is designed to provide rewards to those students who are able to complete 20 books.  The students in grades 4th - 5th utilizes the "Book It" program. This program was designed to encourage outside reading for upper grade students.

The Math component provides the students with the opportunity to compete in local math competitions around the district. The component also provides students a chance to participate in the school's Algebra club.

The members of this academy participate in professional development workshops that focus on the district's philosophy, best practices, and policies. The members in the academy have attended trainings and workshops at Region 4, Harris County Department of Education, etc. These members are encouraged to comeback to campus and present their new found information with their colleagues.
